Dr. Kirk Wendelburg obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1982. He then completed a one-year internship and a three-year residency at The Ohio State University. In 1989, he attained board certification, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and subsequently founded Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles in March of 1990.

An accomplished author, Dr. Wendelburg has written numerous book chapters and has lectured extensively at state, national, and international levels on topics including orthopedic, neurologic, soft tissue, and joint replacement surgery. His contributions to the field have earned him awards and recognition in joint replacement with articles featured in the leading clinical surgery journal, Veterinary Surgery.

As medical director at ASG, Dr. Wendelburg assists with overseeing the surgery residency program. His wealth of knowledge and teaching skills have earned him recognition as an Honored Mentor with the ACVS (American College of Veterinary Surgeons).

Recently, Dr. Wendelburg received the prestigious title of ‘ACVS Founding Fellow – Joint Replacement Surgery,’ a significant milestone that underscores his expertise and contributions to the field. He has also designed and patented a partial and total elbow replacement system, currently under development by Kyon, a renowned Swiss veterinary orthopedic company, in addition to the Lateral Bolt BFX Hip Replacement by BioMedtrix.
