ASG is now an approved training center for the ACVS Joint Replacement Surgery Fellowship Training Program
What does this mean for our patients?
ACVS Fellowship Programs serve to develop highly skilled surgeons who will become recognized experts and leaders in their specialized field of training. Our fellows will learn advanced skills in joint replacement and we will be able to provide that expertise to our patients. Now that we have become an approved training center, ASG can offer certain joint replacement procedures at a more affordable cost to clients.
What is a fellowship?
ACVS-approved fellowship training centers provide specialized training in joint replacement surgery. The training program is designed for ACVS Diplomates and veterinarians who have completed a residency at an ACVS Registered Residency Training Program. Both the fellow candidate and the training institution must comply with the Minimum Standards for ACVS Fellowship Training in Joint Replacement Surgery.
A founding fellow in Joint Replacement Surgery (JRS) is an ACVS Diplomate who has obtained additional training and experience beyond surgery residency training, demonstrates expertise in JRS, and devotes a major portion of their professional effort to research and the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of JRS patients.
There are currently only six ACVS-approved fellowship training programs in the United States for joint replacement surgery, with the Canine Joint Center at ASG being one of the only two private practices that are approved to be a fellowship training center. The ACVS Joint Replacement Surgery Fellowship Training Program is now offered at our private practice in Los Angeles headed by Dr. Kirk Wendelburg.
